Tells Police Driver Was Taking Her the Opposite Direction
A woman in Mishawaka reported a harrowing experience with a Lyft driver Friday. According to police, she used the service to request a ride from Pin Oak Manor Apartments to Hillside Avenue on South Bend’s southwest side.
Instead, she said the driver headed northwest toward the South Bend International Airport, stating that he was taking her to the highway. The woman told authorities at that point, she decided to jump out of the car through the back window at the intersection of Lincoln Way West and Goodland Avenue.
The woman told a local news outlet that she reported the incident to Lyft, but received only an emailed response, along with a ride refund and the phone number for the company’s insurance carrier.
Lyft released a statement to the outlet, saying, “Safety is fundamental to Lyft, and we take reports like this very seriously. We’ve been in touch with the rider to offer our support and we stand ready to assist law enforcement with any investigation.”
The South Bend Police Department is investigating the incident.
